Can we just think for a minute
Am I brain dead? Is there not an enormous cash drain from America to the Arab world to supply this country with oil? Am I missing something? Isn't the price of gas eating a giant hole in our wallets? Am I living under a rock? Isn't global warming the most serious crisis facing mankind which threatens horrific calamities?
Then can someone please explain to me why thousands of people around the country leave their engines running as if gas were cheap, we weren't supplying despotic regimes with our hard-earned cash while the globe heats up from tail pipe emissions?
Every day people leave their cars and trucks running at schools as they wait for their kids, in shopping centers as they wait for someone at the store and the worst, leaving their cars running on the street while having a ten-minute conversation with their neighbors.Business owners would probably be shocked to see how much they pay in extra fuel costs, a result of workers leaving motors idling in trucks. And how about those who drive government vehicles and schools buses leaving them idling and spewing harmful, asthma causing diesel pollution and wasting energy?
The only thing I can conclude is that people are lazy, oblivious and aren't thinking about how we're degrading the environment, wasting energy and supporting our enemies. We are still at war in Iraq and Afghanistan We really have not been asked to sacrifice as we have in past wars. The least we can do as individuals, since the Bush Administration supports the excessive use of oil, is for us individuals to stop the flow of money to the Middle East, that trickles into the hands of terrorists, who are killing our service men and women. Remember supply and demand? We use more oil the price goes up. We use less the cost goes down.
The U.S., which is the leading polluter in the world, could save millions of barrels of oil a year just by being more conservative in our use or misuse of energy. Can we just think for a minute and start taking small, individual steps to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, save ourselves hundreds of dollars a year and try and save our planet from the impact of global warming? It seems pretty simple to me.
