Thank you to Kalliopeia
I am reflecting on the recent meeting convened by the Kalliopeia Foundation to bring together its various grantees: native American grandmothers and elders, artists, film makers, actors, those experimenting with new science, community supported agriculture, and new ways of thinking about money. Educational thinker, Parker Palmer, was there and economist Rianne Eisler. Plus representatives of the late Thomas Berry, Rudolf Steiner, and many religions. Tables were piled high with DVD’s, books and brochures.
I found myself wondering what it is that we all have in common. What is the connection that makes Kalliopeia’s gentle and generous grant making committee see value in these very different agendas? IVOH is a sustained inquiry into the ways that media creates a story of hope for the world. We support enlarging the story of possibility in the world, returning again and again to the goodness that lies at the heart of humanity and the widened scope of opportunity this represents.
This is, I suspect, why we find ourselves in the interesting and worthy company of Kalliopeia’s grantees. When we work in isolation in our offices, laboratories, and edit suites, we can question whether we are up to the task. But when we sit in a crowded room and hear the moving and inspired messages of others who are at work to uplift this fragile world, we are reminded of what it is that set us off in this direction in the first place. Deepest thanks to Kalliopeia.
