IVOH LOCAL CONVERSATION FOR ARTISTS, San Francisco

03/28/2010 - 10:00am
03/28/2010 - 2:30pm
Etc/GMT-4

We invite you to a conversation among professional artists in the Bay Area on the subject of “How my expression can make hope visible in the world?” This conversation is organized by Images & Voices of Hope (www.ivoh.org), a global media dialogue project working to strengthen the role of media as agents of world benefit in journalism, film and the arts.

We had our first West Coast conversation with a gathering of 30 professionals, artists, journalists and film makers last December. The group of artists and performers decided to meet again in March and focus on just the arts. So, we would like to invite you to a conversation for just artists on Sunday, March 28, 10:00 am to 2:30 pm, at the Anubhuti Meditation and Retreat in Novato, just one mile from Hwy 101, and will be facilitated by IVOH’s director, Judy Rodgers.

As artists, we know that the mediums of artistic expression are powerful, moving and inspiring. We know the impact that the arts have on shaping the world we and our children will live in. What draws us together is our belief that the arts – be it the sculpture, dance, theatre, photography, music, painting or violin makingr – can make a difference. Our commitment to explore how that positive potential can be realized – how we can make choices in our work that inspire, motivate, empower, generate constructive meaning, and strengthen human hope and courage to take action, in our communities and in the larger world.

Over the last ten years, IVOH dialogue groups have convened in over 50 cities worldwide. Our annual Global Summit Conference now draws media professionals, artists and film makers from around the world – from grass roots journalists in the Third World to internationally known media figures, including David Fanning of PBS’ Frontline, photographic artist Chris Jordan, TED’s June Cohen, Jim Paymar (formerly at KRON-TV) and Sue Klebanoff - world class weaver. We have received funding for this work from the Fetzer Institute and the Carnegie Foundation, among others.

Thank you in advance for your support and partnership in this initiative. We hope you can join us and contribute to this conversation.
