IVOH Local Conversation: Mauritius 2011

IVOH Mauritius Conversation, March 4-9 2011

Images & Voices of Hope held a series of programs in the island nation of Mauritius from March 4-9 on the impact of media on society. The president and high level ministers in Gender Equality and Health expressed their frustration with the press and the mean-spiritedness that characterized the press coverage of public affairs.

The series of events included televised meetings with the President of Mauritius, television interviews on the National Broadcasting Co., and a series of dialogues on the impact of media on women and children (in honor of the International Day of Women), on arts and culture and with the civil sector. There was also a general dialogue with media.

Of special interest throughout the six days was the impact of media on the public discourse and on the role of reflection in reframing the work of the media to provide a context of hope and possibility. The programs were created in partnership with the Brahma Kumaris in Mauritius.
