IVOH THOUGHT LEADER: Darren Gersh

In 2005, Darren reported from China on the forces shaping the world's most important rising economic power. He landed the first interview by the Western media with China's Commerce Minister Bo Xilai. Darren's China coverage included stories on rice farmers, migrant workers and a rising auto parts tycoon. The series helped NBR win an Emmy for extended coverage of China's emergence as an economic power.

In Washington, Darren has interviewed many leading economic decision makers ranging from then-Federal Reserve Board Governor Ben Bernanke to Speaker Dennis Hastert, Treasury Secretaries Robert Rubin, Larry Summers and Henry Paulson.

On the international front, Darren has covered issues related to economic change and globalization for almost two decades. He reported on Vietnam's transition to a more market-oriented economy following the signing of a trade treaty with the United States. In Taiwan, Darren focused on the challenges facing a high-tech island wary of the growing power of its neighbor on the mainland.

Prior to joining Nightly Business Report, Darren was Associate Producer for Money Politics at WJLA in Washington. From 1987-88 he served as a News Producer for WJXT in Jacksonville, FL.

Darren is a graduate of Yale University and lives in the Washington area with his wife and two sons.

Darren writes an exclusive column, Gersh on Washington, for this website. He also recently stunned his friends and family by winning a 2010 WorldFest Platinum Remi Award for Comedy for developing NBR's Funny Money segment.
