Taking On Hope

It was hope that stopped me. It was hope that made me take a look. But then it always has. Last year, Roberta Baskin sent two notes to a journalism listserv to which we belong. Each had a group’s name in the subject line: Images & Voices of Hope.

And I was drawn to the word "hope." I was drawn to the idea of hope. After all, I had just ushered two sons out of their teenage years and hope is mandatory in that line of work.

Still, I was busy. So I dismissed the first note as something I would read later.

Washington, D.C. – J-Lab: The Institute for Interactive Journalism at American University has been awarded $250,000 from the McCormick Foundation to fund eight innovative women-led news startups over the next two years.

Under the grant, eight winners (four in 2012 and four in 2013) will each be given an initial $12,000 to launch their ideas.
