IMAGES & VOICES OF HOPE gathered 22 journalists and documentary producers for The International Dialogues for Thought Leaders in Media: Journalism on June 3-6, 2010 at the Fetzer Institute in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Thought Leaders from South Africa, Canada, Israel, Trinidad and Tobago and the United States participated in a process of dialogue and deconstruction designed to extract lessons learned from their success. The goal is to capture and disseminate these lessons so others will be inspired and equipped to take on similar challenges.
"Stories of Inspiration and Action"
Stories of Inspiration and Action is the topic of our third International Dialogue for Thought Leaders in Journalism from June 3 – 6, 2010. This series of dialogues has been created by Images & Voices of Hope in partnership with the Fetzer Institute to honor path breakers who -- through leadership, courage or innovation -- have created outstanding media work that supports positive social change.
Since the inception of the dialogues in 2008, we have considered the values and beliefs that characterize journalists, the contribution of journalism to society, the changes underway in the field of journalism and the particular call of this time for journalists. In 2009 we created a series of essays on values in journalism that we hope will contribute to an emergent curriculum on mission, values and social impact in journalism.
As we return to the Fetzer Institute for our third dialogue, the confluence of forces affecting the field of journalism is stirring up the most seminal questions about the field and about the lives and work of those in the room. In this dialogue we explore our values, our inspiration and our intention for our work. We consider the ways that our stories influence society and promote affirmative social impact.
