Headlines and Big Moments of the Past Year
A year in a few words...I left last year's meeting in Kalamazoo with the awareness that professional responsibilities and hope is an important pair that should be more and more present in my daily life. It remained a challenging blend facing the never ending increase of violence and economical crisis that overwhelms most of the world. At work, I am asked to do more with less staff and less money. Internally I also expect to do more or to be better with less time and energy left! I am still running an investigative show and the number of breaking stories we aired that forced major changes and reactions in Quebec encourages me to continue with this approach for a while. I'm still wondering why changes come only after we reveal the ugliness of corruption or immorality. Although I am questioning the effectiveness of those kind of changes. I see governments reacting to our stories, making a few changes, and yet, the root of the wrong remains and erupts somewhere else. Maybe I'm too idealistic, but I still hope that we will learn to really change by being moved by beauty and dignity instead of being offended by the unacceptable.
The Question I'm Grappling With
What really makes things change? Are our news stories really making a difference overall?
