MARCELA MOYANO-ROSERO

 

Marcela Moyano-Rosero is a professor of Communication Arts at St. Thomas University in Miami, Florida and a documentary film producer.

Moyano was born in Bogotá, Colombia and migrated to the United States in 1999. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Communication Arts at St. Thomas University and her Master's Degree in Communication Arts with a specialization in the field of Public Relations at Barry University. Moyano has served as a faculty instructor of the Institute for Communication, Entertainment and Media of St. Thomas University since 2006. She teaches traditional and new media courses. She also serves as the advisor for the closed circuit TV station of the University, WSTU95.

She is an ABD Doctoral candidate at St. Thomas University from the Educational Leadership program. She is currently writing her dissertation on using the method of Cinema Verite to empower marginalized communities of Haiti and the Haitian Diaspora.

Moyano is the co-producer of the MIFF Award Winner documentary film Blooming Hope: Harvesting Smiles in Port-de-Paix, Haiti (2010). She has received numerous grants and scholarships to participate in social media conferences. Her research focuses on using new media to advocate for social change.
