Marjory is publisher and managing editor of Flintside, an online news magazine focusing on Flint people, news, and neighborhoods. Raymer first came to Flint in 2000, serving as the political reporter for The Flint Journal. In 2009, she became the first woman to lead The Journal newsroom and served as editor until 2014 when she was promoted to director of news for MLive Media Group, overseeing 10 newsrooms and 150 journalists statewide. In September 2015, she joined the executive leadership team at the University of Michigan-Flint as a senior advisor for media relations and communications. At UM-Flint, she oversaw marketing, branding, and internal and external communications throughout the Flint Water Crisis. Here, she also realized that while the whole world seems to have heard about Flint, very few have actually ever heard about the community she knows and loves — which lead her to Flintside where she has served since its launch in March 2017. Marjory lives in Flint with her husband Eric Wisniewski and their two children, Javon, 9, and Evelina, 7.
Project Description: Flintside will publish a multipart series focusing on the Life and Future of Civic Park Neighborhood. This big picture look at one small historic district in the city of Flint will investigate its rise and fall — but go well beyond that historic look to also highlight the strength and resilience of this neighborhood and the impact it is having in residents’ lives.
